Frequently asked questions
We wait for your grace period to pass before taking any action. If we still don't hear from you, your emergency contact receives a single SMS.
The grace period is a buffer after your check-in window closes. You can set it to 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, or 2 hours. Your contact is only notified after the grace period ends.
They receive a single SMS saying you haven't checked in, with your name, the time of your last confirmed check-in, and a link to a details page showing the same information. The page needs no login or app, and the link expires 72 hours after the alert.
No. Your emergency contact receives a plain SMS. They don't need a smartphone, an account, or any app.
They receive a short intro SMS when you add them, explaining that you've listed them as your emergency contact. No action is needed on their side, and they can opt out anytime by replying STOP.
Use the Snooze feature. Set a return date and U OK? pauses completely — no check-ins, no reminders, no SMS.
Yes. We only store your name, phone number, and emergency contact details. Nothing is sold or shared with third parties beyond what's needed to deliver the service.
Yes — anytime from Profile → Emergency contact.
Only once per missed check-in cycle. We never spam your contact.
No. The app runs quietly in the background and uses minimal battery.
Phone numbers can't be changed in the app yet. Email us at support@uokay.app and we'll move your account to your new number.
Yes — use Snooze in Profile. Set any future date and everything pauses until then.
SMS delivery depends on your contact's network. We recommend letting your contact know they're set as your emergency contact so they're not surprised by the message.

1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading and using U OK? ("the App"), you agree to these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
2. Description of Service
U OK? is a personal safety check-in application. You set a check-in interval, and if you miss a check-in within the grace period, your designated emergency contact is notified by SMS.
3. User Responsibilities
You must provide accurate information including your name, phone number, and emergency contact details.
You are responsible for ensuring your emergency contact has agreed to receive SMS notifications on your behalf.
You must keep your check-in interval and emergency contact information up to date.
4. Limitations
U OK? is not a substitute for emergency services. In a life-threatening situation, contact 112 or your local emergency number.
SMS delivery is subject to network availability and cannot be guaranteed.
The App requires an active internet connection and push notification permissions to function correctly.
5. Intellectual Property
All content, design, and code within the App is owned by U OK? and may not be reproduced without permission.
6. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or misuse the service.
7. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
We only collect what's needed to keep you safe. Nothing is sold. Nothing is shared beyond what's necessary to deliver the service.

4. Data Sharing
We share your data only with:
Twilio — our SMS delivery provider. Your emergency contact's phone number is shared with Twilio solely to deliver SMS notifications. Twilio Privacy Policy →
Supabase — our database and infrastructure provider. Data is stored securely on Supabase servers in the EU. Supabase Privacy Policy →
When an alert fires, your emergency contact receives an SMS containing a tokenized link. The page it opens shows them your name, your last confirmed check-in time, and your optional check-in note if you added one. The link requires no login and expires 72 hours after the alert.
We never sell your data. We never share your data with advertisers.
5. Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active
Upon account deletion, all data is permanently removed within 30 days
Check-in logs older than 90 days are automatically deleted
